Jack Ryan VC, 2018
Bronze sculpture 2100mm high
Tumut, NSW
This sculpture departs from an expected representation of a returned soldier. Jack is depicted, still a young man, as he returns from heroic service to his country in WW1, and in a walking stance that seems to have been a feature of his life. From his initial march to sign up to service with the Kangaroo March, to his walk across much of NSW and Victoria on his return. He proudly holds his VC medal on his outstretched hand, as if to ask the viewer to consider the object and its meaning.
